 I had begun thinking about getting a new drum set & after perusing "Guitar Centers" around the area, realized that the DW sets they had in stock were not what I wanted as far as colors, wraps, etc.. I play a white marine pearl DW that I have had for 15 years & love it, but nothing was catching my fancy. It then occur-red to me that I would have one custom built. I wasn't ready to shell out the $5, 000 + for a new set, yet. With that thought in mind, I had remembered a set of DW's in a pawn shop that had been sitting there for over 6 months. It was a satin green lacquer bass drum & 2 plain white wrapped toms, one rack & one floor. They were beat up pretty bad but no damage or dents, etc.. I bought them for a few hundred bucks for the whole set. I then played them at a rehearsal with my band & they sounded fantastic. Looking to re-wrap them myself, I realized I didn't have the expertise to do the job the way I wanted them done & knew I would ruin them.

 
Thumper Custom Drums

I saw an ad for "Thumper" Custom Drums & read the testimonials. Then I realized they were located in Marysville, WA where I live! They are about 4 miles from my house. I called John Jones & met him. What a wonderful man. I could feel the passion for drums & the work he does & knew he was the man to do the job. I visited him often during the process & finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he called & said they were ready to pick up. They were gorgeouse & looked every bit as fantastic as I had been envisioning them. They look like a hot rod with the chrome hardware & the pearl wrap that fades from a candy apple red into a frost orange. John does impeccable work & explains in detail the "whys & hows" of each process & the result is better than new. He redid my bearing edges & these drums sing! Thanks John! You will be building my next kit!

I have been playing since I was 15 and most of the bands I have played in have been original.  I started as a heavy metal drummer during the "hair band" metal days in the 1980's.  Since then I have played in punk, fusion, alternative, industrial and alternative country bands. I played on Bruce Drake's 2004 release, "Locust".

 

Some of the bands I played in are:  Tempered Steel, metal/Los Angeles; Rose Hills, punk/Los Angeles; Screams from the Trees, industrial/punk/Los Angeles; Kill Bhudda, alternative/Los Angeles; Bruce Drake, alternative country/San Francisco; presently playing and recording with Smokin Sixty Six in Everett, WA and recording with my
band, Joy Bang in San Francisco.
